Shawn Stucky on Gen Art
Yo! artist Shawn Stucky was recently featured in an article on Genartpulse.com about emerging artists in the Chicago area. Here's a quote from the article:
Stucky describes his screen prints as "unconscious," and understandably so. They seem to come from the depths of a drug-induced sleep, transferred from the world of dreams onto a single piece of paper. The focus of several works is personal—the intensity of these relationships presents itself through the lightening bolt-like streams of energy that reach across the prints. Even though the palette is limited to a few, muted colors, it packs a mean punch; you'd never guess that he's colorblind.
Stucky is one who uses his art to interpret and understand his surroundings and how they influence and impact him. He draws from all experiences, from the everyday walk home from the subway to the influence of other arts. According to the artist, "Influenced by music and the organic nature of my surroundings,I am continually inspired to create art that reflects a fusion of my interests."
His work in the Yo! What Happened to Peace? show reveals how the violence and destruction half way across the world can still effect those in the United States, which is what makes Stucky's work so powerful. His ability to portray visually that which so many people are thinking and feeling about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq has added to the diverse range of anti-war statements in the Yo! show and we know he is one you will want to keep track of in the future.

L.A. vs WAR on Vimby & Juxtapoz
The recent L.A. vs WAR event (of which Yo! What Happened to Peace? was a part of) in downtown Los Angeles was a great success thanks to the great artists, activists and visitors that made it all happen. Juxtapoz just posted this video, made by Vimby (Video In My Back Yard), to their site:
We would like to extend a big thank you to Vimby, the video is awesome. And of course, love to Juxtapoz for helping to spread the word against the war.

Noah Breuer - New Work
Yo! friend and artist Noah Breuer graduated last year from Columbia University with a master's in fine art and from the looks of things has been putting that degree to good use.
Starting this month, Breuer will be teaching a class at NYU and helping them run their printmaking shop. He also has two pieces in a show at IPCNY which will be up until February 23rd, so please go check out the show if you are out in Chelsea.
Since graduation he has been working on a set of woodblock prints with artist Kiki Smith. Smith is known for her roots as a feminist artist; her sculptures are known worldwide and her prints are currently held at museums such as the MOMA in New York. On the topic of prints, Smith has said, "Prints mimic what we are as humans: we are all the same and yet every one is different. I think there's a spiritual power in repetition, a devotional quality, like saying rosaries." Working with her is no small achievement, and we think the prints turned out great.

Yo! Stockholm
Yo! What Happened To Peace? opened Saturday December 8 in Stockholm, Sweden at Kulturhuset's youth division Lava. The opening was timed to coincide with the Vardagsrebell (Everyday Rebel) 3-day art and activism festival, co-produced by Lava, PeaceQuest, Radda Varlden and several other progressive groups. The aim of the festival is to engage Swedish youth to use their creative talents in expressing alternatives to consumerism and to rebel against the status quo in their everyday lives.
Kulturhuset is central Stockholm's amazing modern cultural center, featuring art galleries, libraries, theaters, cinemas, workshops, and cafés. The Vardagsrebell festival's activities included a screenprinting workshop hosted by John Carr of Yo! What Happened to Peace?, street actions, a rebel photo-booth, short film-making classes and much more.
